Your Personalized Results

Your life is filled with a sense of purpose, and you’re one of the lucky people who sees how your skills and abilities can help you reach your life’s goals. You are on the path to a life of significance, and you’ve got what you need to make it happen.

The challenge is, you’re not going to get there without taking risks and making a few sacrifices. That’s something you’re willing to do — but you may have an inherent reservation, or something else holding you back from really knowing what to do. You want to know if you’re considering the right risks, and if the potential sacrifices in front of you are really worthwhile. There’s only one way to find out.

• Self-insight and self-reflection
• Awareness of your personal gifts, talents, and limitations
• Living with a sense of purpose, and an ability to cast a vision for your life
• Careful and considered

Don’t worry — nobody is going to recommend that you sell everything you own and move to Tibet next week. Capacity for taking risks, for making sacrifices, is something that requires intentional practice. As you think about the vision and goals that you are most passionate about, you’re going to need to consider what small, first steps you could take that could transform into a new habit of healthy risk-taking.

When you take a risk that blows up in your face, even a small one, the temptation may be to take two steps back and stay in your safe zone. The hardest thing to do will be to take just a single step back, use your powers for insight and reflection to learn anything that can be learned, and then to apply your new knowledge to try something new.

• What is important enough to me that I would take a risk for it?
• Will I regret trying and failing more than never really trying?
• What are some small, calculated moves I’m ready to consider in pursuit of a bigger vision for my life?
• Who from your trusted circle can you bring alongside you to help evaluate and/or pursue a calculated risk?

Developing your risk-taking muscles doesn’t happen overnight. Taking big, strategic chances can only happen if you’ve built confidence in your power to decide what risks are worth taking, and act. Sometimes, the risks you take may not pay off — and you may just realize your fear was greater than the actual letdown. Other times, they will lead to breakthrough success, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t take action sooner.

You have clarity of vision and profound self-awareness. As you begin to take small steps toward your life’s most meaningful and urgent ends, you’ll discover confidence you never knew you had. Even failures aren’t really failures when you learn from them and use your experience to try something else. You’ve just got to decide where you’re going to start.
